JERUBBAAL: The Bible's Nickname for Gideon Has Been Unearthed! Prof. Yosef Garfinkel Explains
Show Notes

In this episode, Jeff talks to Prof. Yosef Garfinkel, Head of the Institute of Archaeology at The Hebrew University of Jerusalem about the inscription unearthed in 2019 while he and his team were excavating ancient Ziklag. Scholars agree that the inscription reads "Jerubbaal", the nickname the Bible gives Gideon in the book of Judges:

'So because Gideon broke down Baal’s altar, they gave him the name Jerub-Baal that day, saying, “Let Baal contend with him”' (Judges 6:32).

But how sure can we be that the inscription is referring to Gideon? And how exactly did Prof. Garfinkel's hard-working team unearth this intriguing find?
